Mohammed Exposed in Denmark!

In case you have not heard, Denmark has been on the news. A few days ago in Denmark, a newspaper printed a cartoon depicting Mohammed in a comical way. If you do not know, the Koran states that under no circumstances is there to be a likeness of the prophet Mohammed. You are to refer to him by name only, but not a physical depiction such as a picture, or in this case, a cartoon. The Muslim states are in an uproar over the whole deal. Iraq and Iran were seen on TV burning the Danish flag. For once it is not an American Flag!!! Yipee! Anyway. After much debate, I decided to add these cartoons as reference so those of you can see them. However, I do not want those reading this to think I am personally excepting these cartoons as truth, but simply using them as reference. I too, much like that of the French, German, and Norwegians(all of which have republished these cartoons in their newspapers to

show support for Denmark and the right to free speech among the press) believe that there should be a right to free speech and for those not practicing Islam to be able to do as they please. However, I still see the argument. I don't agree with free speech when it hinders apon the free will, and well being of others. These cartoons are a hinderance to Islam since it is offensive and rude to their culture. But at the same time, to put it into perspective, think of this: If a muslim person decided to write funny, and even sacreligious depictions of Jesus Christ in their newspapers, what would your reaction be? Would you be affended? or would you simply push it aside because they don't practice the same faith, therefore there is no reason why you should be angry? Would you agree that they have the same rights to post cartoons about Christ the same way as Denmark had the right to post cartoons of Mohammed? It's an interesting argument, and I would really like to hear your comments about this, so please post them if you have any kind of opinion, whether you agree or disagree. I'm open for discussion. Until then, hig hig.

First Project... Done!

Well, it hasn't even been a full week of school yet, and my technically my first project for a class is done. I'm in a Digital Design Journal class, in which we document our stay in Denmark digitally through photograph, and sketches that we can scan in. Through the use of Photoshop, and other programs we combine, layer, and manipulate these images to try and evoke an emotion, feeling, sense of place, or simply try to tell a story. For our first project, we had to show our first impressions, and what we thought about Copenhagen. I have a daily route to school, or pretty much anywhere else I want to go in town. I leave my apartment, get on the Metro, and get off at which ever stop I please. With this in mind, I came up with the idea to show a picture that portrayed my daily commute, as well as the images that I see and the places I can go simply by going a different route on the Metro. There are a total of 12 pictures used in this complete photo. I tried also to get a sense of the narrowness of the streets and the dynamic perspective they create when you look down them. Hope you enjoy... I will try to post all of

First Day of Classes

Well, today officially started the first classes of DIS this semester. Unfortunetly, I forgot to switch my alarm clock off of the "Set Alarm" position after I finished setting what time I wanted to wake up. Needless to say, I missed my class. My only class today, and I missed it. Not only that, but now I have to find time to go downtown and take pictures of the Copenhagen Train Station. I don't even know where that is, yet!! Other than that, today was a good day. I'm going on a ski trip to Sweden on Saturday. $95, all inclusive, Sweden...need I say more. I bought a ski jacket today for $23, and got some amazingly awesome gloves for around $30. If that seems odd, well it is. In Denmark right now for the month of January, the entire country has everything on sale. The jacket was normally $120. However, even though everything is supposed to be "on sale" gloves in this country are rediculously expesive. Granted I got some nice gloves, but $30 for gloves! Anyway, I found a way to get by without having a watch. There is a huge clocktower just downtown from where school is, and it chimes every half hour, so all I have to do is listen and I'll know the time. Otherwise I'm just going to ask somebody, or I could even go all out and get a real watch! That's all the news today. Make sure to check out my pictures on the right side of the screen, and keep clicking those Google links, I've actually started to see some progress. Thanks again, all of you, whoever you are. So long, and good night.
