My New Endevours

To all of those who read my blog, I have begun a few side projects while I am here in Denmark. Four of them to be exact.

#1. A collection of photographs of Danish furniture of all shapes and sizes. I will use this to make reference, inspire, and ultimately share my experiences through a more specific means.

#2. A collection of photographs illustrating the many varieties of bicycles that I have found in Denmark. It's a narrow viewpoint of the Danish culture that I find intriguing. Nearly 2/3 the poplulation of Copenhagen uses bicycles as their daily means of transportation, even in the dead of winter. So a portfolio of pictures will be arranged to show these bikes in an artistic way, or so I plan.

#3. I am starting a blog for each project that I begin in studio. I will take pictures, scan in sketches, make reference to drawings and 3D models of every step in the creation process. From day one to presentation. This will be a sort of diary for each project, letting it stand alone and present itself instead of being thrown in with all my other blog information. Also, each blog will serve as a reference for a portfolio. I can simply record each project from start to finish in an organized way, and when I'm finished I can link it to my portfolio to send to perspective employers. If there is anything employers like more, its to see progression of an idea and see your thoughts throughout the process and how you arrived at a given solution.

#4. Last but not least, I have decided to post a new blog about Architectural Theory. I am taking a class in theory, and have already learned so much from the professor. He is an extraordinary teacher, and an excellent designer. The way he presents architectural ideas is beyond the realm of anything I have yet to encounter. So, in light of this, I am posting for my own reference later, as well as anyone else who is interested, a four month journey through architectural theory. I will describe what I am taught, and I will explain my feelings towards such a theory. I may agree I may disagree, but the point is that I am making my own observations about how I think architecture should be. I have already started this blog, and Have included a seperate link to it on the right.

So having that said, I think I will have my hands full this semester on top of all my regular school work. But this is something I really want to do. I want to be able to create on my own without a program already written out for me. I want to venture out and explore what I can do with what knowledge I have gained in 4 years of schooling.

Skiing in Sweden

I know it has been a few days, but I finally got time to do some blog stuff. We just got done with our first project in Architecture, which was more work than it should have been. I'll post some pictures of the model once I get some. As for this past weekend, I went skiing. I haven't been skiing in 8 years so this was quite the experience. It was only $95 for the entire day, all inclusive. I couldn't pass it up. As soon as I got my ski's I immediately thought I was as good as I used to be 8 years ago(which still wasn't that good), sort of like riding a bike, right? Wrong. The first hill was a blue diamond, easy to most, a tough beginning for me. I didn't fall, but scared the crap out of me when I got going very fast and couldn't slow down. I got to the bottom of the hill and followed all the avid skiiers I was with to the lift. I rode back up to the top, except it wasn't that same hill i just came down! I was face to face with a DOUBLE Black Diamond. Not single, double. Fortunetly, there was a single black diamond, hehe, and a double blue diamond there, too. However, the double blue and single black are the same side of the hill, no trees inbetween. Only difference is the steepness of the hill, and the black had more ice on it. So, instead of killing myself first thing, I take the double blue run. I had not quite gotten my turning down yet. So, first thing down the hill, I go to turn right and end up going straight down the hill, and keep gaining speed as I fly past person after person. Finally, I am able to pull myself to the right, but by that time, I was unaware that I was headed into the Black Diamond I mentioned earlier. I hit the ice and steep slope and bit it, hardcore.
I went face first. My skiies seperated, luckily not to far away, though. My poles and hat, however, were about 30 feet behind me up this really steep slope. So, I ended up taking off my skiies so I could walk back up the hill to retrieve my stuff. After I grabbed everything, and had put my skiies back on, I tried to stand up. I did on my first try, which for me was very good since I sucked at getting back up as a kid. Well, as soon as I was upright, my body mass threw me back down the hill... so I tried to turn to stop. Nope. I turned, but I didn't stop. I turned to the right and was rocketing dead ahead for a tree line. Fortunetly, a large wooden timber fence blocked me from getting into the woods. Unfortunetly, there was a large wooden timber fence to block me from going into the woods. My right shoulder took most of the force, and I laid there for about 30 seconds, not moving from embarassment/pain/exhaustion. I looked up finally to notice I was missing a ski, both poles, my hat and a glove. I ended up finding the poles hat and glove, but my ski was nowhere to be found. So I walked down the hill, only to find my ski lying all by its lonesome near the lift. Instead of getting back on the lift, only to repeat my previous story, I swallowed what little pride was left and walked back up the hill to another lift to take me to my starting point. Needless to say, I was the largest person on the bunny slopes for about half an hour following. There is some good news though. I got my balance back, I got my turns down, and I was ready to take on anything they could throw at me. I conquered the Double blue diamond later on without falling! And for my last run of the day, I tried the single black. I got off balance due to the fact that I was near the speed of sound near the bottom, but I didn't fall. It was a good day. One of the most fun things I've done here yet. Great times on the hills of Sweden!! I'll post again when I get a chance. Until then, have a good day. Godt Nat!(good night)

By the way, this is Trevor. We thought is was great that he had a turn table on his board. He can mix it and shred it at the same time!
